Meet the Expansion Deck
Seventy-eight extra cards for the yogis who want to build longer sequences: copies of the most common positions, bonus cards for sequence building, and intention cards that bring more purpose to a practice. It is the deck that takes what you already own to the next level.
- Copies
The same pose, twice in one flow
Copies of the most common positions, so a long sequence can come back to a pose instead of stopping at it.
- Bonus
Pause, repeat, vinyasa
Three instructions a pose card cannot give you, now cards of their own: hold here, run that again, transition with a vinyasa.
- Intention
Twelve reasons to practice
Artwork cards for qualities like self-love, compassion, truth and grounding, for the days the inspiration is what is missing.
The referencing system, unchanged
Beneath each position there is a phrase to set your focus. The numbers to the left of the rewind symbol are poses to practice before the card at hand; the numbers to the right of the fast-forward symbol are poses and counterposes to follow it with.
The volume symbol shows how advanced the position is, and the fire figure marks the poses that build heat, so you can decide whether you are building a dynamic sequence or a relaxing one. The Expansion cards carry all of it, exactly as your first deck does.
160cards on the floor with both decks, and a sequence that can run as long as you like
The parts of a sequence one deck cannot hold
Want to come back to a pose later in the flow?
You need a second copy of the card. Copies of the most common positions are what this deck is mostly made of.
Planning a 60 or 90 minute practice?
One deck runs out. With the Expansion cards a long sequence lays out end to end without a gap in it.
Holding a pose for ten breaths, or running a passage twice?
Drop in a pause card or a repeat card. The instruction sits in the sequence instead of in your memory.
No idea what today's practice is for?
Draw one of the 12 intention cards, read the quality on it, and build the flow around that.
Whether you are a beginner, an advanced yogi or a teacher, these are the cards that let a sequence run its full length and hold every instruction inside it.
A reason to practice, before a pose to practice
The intention cards are the answer to running out of ideas. Each one carries a piece of artwork representing a specific quality: self-love, compassion, truth, confidence, grounding, freedom. Take a moment to absorb the card, and let your own intuition show you what to focus on.

- Breath
- Self-love

Pause. Repeat. Vinyasa.
The bonus cards are designed to help you remember to pause in a particular position, repeat a position or a sequence, and do a vinyasa as a transition from one pose to another. Front and back, the same as every other card in the range.
Pause
Stay in the position. The hold is part of the sequence, not an afterthought.
Repeat
Run that position, or that whole passage, again before moving on.
Vinyasa
Transition through a vinyasa on the way from one pose to the next.
How to use the deck
- 01
Draw an intention
Pick one of the 12 intention cards, or skip it. It sets what the practice is for before you choose a single pose.
- 02
Lay out the flow
Use your Yoga Deck for the shape of the session and pull Expansion copies wherever a pose needs to come back.
- 03
Add the instructions
Drop a pause card where you want to hold, a repeat card where the passage runs twice, a vinyasa card for the transition.
- 04
Practice it, then change one card
The sequence is on the floor, so next time you adjust it instead of rebuilding it from nothing.
How will the Expansion Deck elevate your self-practice?
It removes the ceiling on how long a sequence can run, and puts the parts of a practice that are not poses into the sequence with everything else.
- Build longer sequences without running out of cards halfway through
- Put the pause, the repeat and the vinyasa into the sequence itself, so nothing is left to memory
- Set an intention first and let the practice follow it, with 12 artwork cards to choose from
- Lay out a full class on the floor and read it left to right while you teach
- Keep the same referencing system, the same card size and the same box quality you already own
I lay a full class out on the studio floor and read it left to right while I teach. Transitions marked, repeats marked, nothing held in my head. My teaching moved beyond the studio.
The deck that makes long sequences possible
A single deck holds one card per pose, which quietly caps how long a flow can run. The Expansion Deck removes that cap, and turns the instructions between poses into cards of their own.
For sequences that got longer
One deck gives you one card per pose. Lay out a 40-minute flow and you will want warrior 2 twice. This is the deck that lets you.
For the instructions between poses
A pause, a repeat, a vinyasa: the parts of a sequence that live in your head. Now they sit on the mat with everything else.
For the days you have no idea
Draw an intention card, read the quality on it, and build the practice around that instead of around a pose you already know.
Who this deck is really for
Anyone whose sequences have outgrown a single deck, and anyone who would rather lay a practice out than hold it in their head.
If your flows run long
A 60- or 90-minute sequence needs the same pose more than once. Copies of the most-used cards are the point of this deck.
If you teach
Lay a whole class out on the floor, pauses and vinyasas included, and read it left to right. Nothing has to be remembered.
If you practice on themes
Twelve intention cards, each a quality with its own artwork, to set the theme before you choose a single pose.
If you own one deck already
This is the add-on for it. Same card size, same system, same box quality, and it doubles what you can lay out.
→ Beginner or returning
The referencing numbers on each card suggest what comes before and after, so a first sequence is a matter of following the deck. The manuals cover the rest.
→ Experienced and teachers
Lay a full class on the floor with its holds, repeats and transitions marked, then read it left to right while you teach.
Same system. Twice the room.
The decks give you the poses. Asana Academy teaches all 82.
Asana Academy Vol 1 is an in-depth online course covering every pose in the foundational PlayPauseBe deck, the same poses the Expansion cards duplicate. It is a structured path through all 82 of them, and it pairs with the Sequence Guidebooks for the sequences themselves.
- 78extra cards in the deck
- 82poses taught in Asana Academy Vol 1
- ∞lifetime access, at your own pace
- 46sequences across both guidebooks
Here is what you can expect from Asana Academy Vol 1
- Complete pose mastery: over 80 poses with step-by-step instruction
- Breathing techniques, and how to inhale and exhale through a flow
- How to give rhythm and flow to a session rather than a list of shapes
- Props and twists, used properly
- Lifetime access, and expert guidance from Illona and Nathalie
- 30-day money-back guarantee on the course

New to sequencing
Asana Academy Vol 1 teaches all 82 poses of the base deck step by step, so you build sequences from shapes you actually know.
Already teaching
Forty-six ready-made sequences across both guidebooks, built on the Yoga Deck and the Expansion Deck together.
What the Expansion Deck changes
- Build a 90-minute class without running out of cards or repeating a passage by accident.
- Write the pauses down, so a hold lasts as long as you planned rather than as long as you remember.
- Mark every transition with a vinyasa card, and the linking movement stops being improvised.
- Theme a practice in one move by drawing an intention card before you choose a single pose.
- Teach from the floor: lay the sequence out, read it left to right, adjust one card next time.
- Learn the poses in full with Asana Academy Vol 1, which covers all 82 of them step by step.

My sequences kept stalling because I only had one card per pose. Now I lay out an hour properly, with the holds written into it. The pause cards are the part I use every single practice.

On the days I open the box with no idea what to do, I draw an intention card first and build around the word on it. That one habit is why I still practice at home.
